About Second Sea

Second Sea was born from a passion of surfing, upcycling and a deep love of the ocean.

The combination of all these things lead to the creation of the Eco Surf Sock which is a unique "one of a kind" surfboard cover that is made from upcycled materials.

Not only will your precious surfboard have a funky new cover, you will also be playing a part toward a better future and saving unwanted items from going to landfill.

The Fabric

The Fabric

At Second Sea we see so much life in unwanted items which is why we love to upcycle as much as possible! We are always on the lookout for materials at places such as local markets, garage sales & thrift stores, we are also the first port of call when family and friends are having a cleanout.. it's brilliant.

Second Sea has a revolving door of items such as table cloths, curtains, throw rugs, sarongs, clothes and duvet covers... if you can sew it then we can upcycle it.

What makes the second sea surf socks and beach bags so special is that once the fabrics have been upcycled you will have the only one of its kind, no two will ever be the same.

The Designs

This is the fun part! Customizing your very own surf sock or beach bag allows you to let your creative side run wild and create something that suits you down to a tee.

All surf socks come lined with hemp calico or upcycled calico and have a recycled cotton drawstring, metal eyelets for durability and vegan leather labels.

The beach bags also come lined with upcycled calico, have sustainable jute handles and vegan leather labels.

All items are handmade with love by myself on the east coast of Australia in a sunny little surf town called Newcastle.

The Mission

At Second Sea our mission is to upcycle as much as possible whilst also giving people the creative freedom to design something unique and practical that brings happy pre-surf vibes.

We also aim to create a community of like-minded people who are passionate about surfing, the ocean and sustainability. We hope not only to inspire but educate and create awareness so we all can make better choices towards positive change and give our struggling planet a helping hand.

About Me

My name is Lee.. and this is me in my happy place!

When I’m not surfing I’m probably thinking about surfing or napping, eating, sleeping, skating or organising another surf!

My other happy place is my sewing room, I could spend hours tinkering around making all sorts of things... that's where Second Sea (formerly Revamp) comes to life.

Thankfully I come from quite a crafty family, my sister owns a successful interior design business Henry and co interior and mum is the oracle of all things crafty and sewing! All 3 of us love a good garage sale or a day out hunting through Vinnies. I guess that’s where I got my love for upcycled things. I feel like we live in such a disposable society, why keep creating unnecessarily when there is so much beauty and life left in second-hand items.

The Full Story

Second Sea was born from a passion for surfing, upcycling and a deep love for the ocean. The combination of all these things lead to the creation of the Eco Surf Sock which is a unique one of a kind surfboard cover made from upcycled and sustainable fabrics.

Unfortunately, we live in a “disposable” society, the energy and water usage that goes into making virgin textiles is outrageous.. this is an opportunity to turn unwanted items into something beautiful and practical that will get used for many years to come.. not only will your precious surfboard have a funky new cover.. you will also be playing a part towards a better future for the environment.

Remember we only get one chance at this, there will be no “Second Sea”

I remember mum and I making my first board cover back in 2014, I’d just moved to Newcastle after 12 years of travel and had a Bali dress that was an amazing colour but ugly as hell.. clearly, I didn’t want to throw it away so I asked mum what should I do with this.. her response was “make a surfboard cover”! So after finding a leopard print scarf and some other scraps from mums sewing room the first ever upcycled surfboard cover was made! I still have it to this day. It’s was so much fun to make I literally raided my wardrobe and everyone else’s  for clothes I could chop up and make into board covers.. I was hooked!

For Christmas that year everyone got a board  cover! Ive continued to make them for family and friends ever since but due to injury (I did the splits on a skateboard ) and having to take a few months off work, it’s forced me to get a move on and turn this little hobby into hopefully something more.
